alsa for slack 9


hmm, when i run configure it asks me where the kernel sources are.
i have no /usr/src/linux folder.
i have downloaded the 2.4.20 kernel from www.kernel.org but i am having trouble installing it.
i am completely new to linux so please bare with me.

1. Untar the source into /usr/src. That creates directory /usr/src/linux-2.4.20. However, you might want to apply some patches to the kernel (i.e., ext3 patches) and not go with plain vanilla.

2. Create a symlink to that directory: ln -s /usr/src/linux-2.4.20 linux (if you're already in that dir, otherwise you'll have to specify the full path of the symlink I believe )
