ALSA and Kernel Modular Drivers

Ok, I had slackware 9 installed with the kernel drivers for my cs46xx card (santa cruz). The sound worked but the quality was not the best. I then upgraded to slackware 9.1 and installed the alsa drivers. I upgraded as opposed to clean install because I didnt want to loose my files or configs in /etc. I was also having some issue with swaret and gnome so I did not go that route either. Anyway, after the install the sound does not seem to be working properly. I ran alsamixer and it says the card is off and gnome cannot see devices to control (no permissions?). I then chmod 777 /dev/mixer and /dev/snd and /dev/dsp. Then I looked in dmesg and it seems that the old kernel drivers are still trying to be loaded so I checked /etc/modules.conf and there is no entry for the cs46xx card. How do I disable the old drivers from loading and get the ALSA ones working correctly, thanks alot!

Also, can someone tell me where the dir of the alsaconfig file is located, I didnt RTFM.
