Wouldn't these be upgraded while installing the Ktown dependencies?

If you follow the links about "exciting things behind the scenes" in the pointy-est-stick blog you will find this page indicating that plasma6 is under development and hence on its way, so to speak.:

Plasma 6 porting work we need help doing now!
"6.0" is a word that brings a lot of excitement but also a lot of aprehension and for good reason. The reason our .0 releases sometimes struggle to match the quality isn't due to changes in the underlying libraries changing but how much we have to port away from the things that we've deprecated internally and have put off porting to.
Too many changes in one release becomes overwhelming and bugs creep in without time to get address them.
We want to be proactive in avoiding that.
At a recent Plasma sprint, we went through some of our bigger targets that we want to finish completely porting away from in time for the 6.0 release that we can actively start doing within the 5.x series where we can do things more gradually and inrecementally.

If you continue to wander around you can find some mock up pages and previews of the styling and some wise guy (not me) asking about how to turn off the flippin' transparency (LOL).

Probably so when using the usual slackpkg/upgradepkg --install-new.

cwizardone 07-05-2020 10:18 AM

I do it "the old fashion way," i.e., downloaded the kde5 files then run, upgradepkg --reinstall --install-new
Of course, that is after kde4 has been removed.

Yep, I'd probably do it the old-fashioned way too, but as I mentioned earlier, I was using slackroll (for testing in another thread.)

Anyway, its all cool, obligatory neofetch from my kubevirt VM attached:

Am I reading that right? Are they throwing the baby out with the bathwater AGAIN???

Sddm xdm-like theme

I think someone here will appreciate this thing I found. It's an sddm theme made to look like traditional xdm with some nice transition animations

No serious security fixes here that I see. It does beg the question, if Erik is no longer updating ktown, is there any underlying security risks until -current catches up?

He is updating ktown. He just stopped providing the regular monthly updates he was doing.

Nobody stops you to take the stick and to build as you wish the new versions of KDE Plasma, Frameworks and Applications.

For example, I've built in just a single evening this latest set: Plasma 5.19.3, Frameworks 5.72.0 and Applications 20.04.3, using a box running a ferocious Athlon x4 605e, with a glorious TDP of 45W and paired with some gargantuan 8GB DDR3 1333MHz memories. Honestly, I guess that your Steam-ready rigs are indecently superior to my build box. ;)

Yes, gentlemen!

There is no need to wait to be spoon-feed by Papa Eric, because Mr. Hameleers made a brilliant build system for Plasma5, which just waits for your attention.

At the current rate of progress,Plasma6 will be out before Plasma5 is integrated into Slackware...

Same method here, just one little change, 'kdav' is moved in 'frameworks' now, i have also build 'applications beta (20.07.80)' without problem, all work, here ;)

(20.07.80) is here:
https://download.kde.org/unstable/re.../20.07.80/src/

Yes, I noticed the new "kdav" package from Frameworks, which package succeeded to be built with no additional dependencies.

Also, I built and installed KTorrent 5.2.0 - but for this one I needed to apply two Gentoo patches:

https://gitweb.gentoo.org/repo/gento...-systray.patch
https://gitweb.gentoo.org/repo/gento...-linking.patch

The second patch is critical - without it the build will fail with linking issues for TagLib.

Regarding the beta releases, I proffered to stay on the stable versions.
