i'm using KDE 4.2.4 in slack 13.0, and i have a few annoyances, but nothing i can't usually find a workaround for. i get herringbone distortion on video in GXINE unless i have an idle instance of GXINE already running before i open a new instance of it to watch the video

Window Maker
Add in a good file manager and KDE hasn't got nothing on it.

I've been using Slack since v7.1 and for reasons like yours, I never took that leap to go -current until this past Christmas...it ain't that big a leap and I've learned more in the past 3 months than I have in the past 3 years. Get yourself Alien Bob's nifty little iso creation script and let it do its thing...then go current. It really is so much more impressive than 13-stable and if you then get over to the aforementioned Alien Bob's alien pastures, he'll guide you through the painfully simple process of upgrading to his builds of KDE4.4
