Alien BoB VlC 3.0 where did the download subtitles go???/

I do not use subtitles very often but sometimes I do and I'd run that download subtitles off of the menu. so I got VLC (home) compiled it off of the VLC sight under AB's posting then today I went to download subtitle and I Cannot find it. is it me or VLC?

Try starting VLC in a terminal using "vlc -vv" and you'll probably see that there's a LUA error that prevents the downloaded file from being loaded.
Then, find the cause of that error and tell me how to fix it Or better, file a VLC bug in their tracker.

thanks I've been tinkering with it here and there, it says it has some type of plugin attached to it. I forget , that was the other day and mixed in all of the things I was doing.

I even tried installing the "old" 2.x vlc you did, to see if I was imagining something, and or just go back to that one, no big deal, and that one seg faulted.

Well, the plugin is called VLSub, it is written in LUA and VLC 3.x has incorporated it (used to be that you had to download the 'vlsub' extension and install it afterwards).
VLSub creates a menu entry for itself with a toggle switch that is disabled by default. If you enable it, it allows you to search for and download a subtitle and load it into the player, and optionally save it to disk. When you start VLC as "vlc -vv" you'll see that VLSub actually downloads the ZIP file containing the subtitle but then a LUA error pops up and the subtitle does not get saved, or loaded.

What the cause of the error is, I do not know, I did not have the time to research.

I just reinstalled it and the everything it needs to go along with it, and,
ya know what I was looking for that old way of telling someone to select download subtitles. here, it is just a check box so I stayed away from even trying that and was looking for what I vaguely remembered how to select to download sub titles in the other older version, .... ok I'm feeling embarrassed.

on the bright side, it works so you can go on to not worrying about that one.

vlc doesn't know what the W is though,
Code:
userx@slackwhere101:~
$ vlc -W "/media/data/deluge-completed/Walking Tall (2004) [1080p]/Walking.Tall.2004.1080p.BrRip.x264.YIFY.mp4"
VLC media player 3.0.0 Vetinari (revision 3.0.0-30-gef4c265336)
vlc: unknown option or missing mandatory argument `-W'
Try `vlc --help' for more information.

Look very closely at Alien Bob's post. That single 'w' that you tried is actually two 'v' chars.

HTH.

This is actually equivalent in this case:
Code:
$ vlc -v -v

Looks like vlc3 dropped support for QT4 ; now I have another program that won't conform to my colour scheme.....
