After typeing 'startx' it can't find /dev/mouse

When I type startx, it tells me it can't find my mouse, I tell it, in the xorgconfg, for the bus, which im sure Universal Serial BUS would be right?

But then the next step, where it tells me to type where the mouse is, I don't know what to do, so I just hit enter (making it default as /dev/mouse)

What would I set it to? I have no idea what to do about this!!

Help asap please!

try changing it to:

/dev/input/mice

Ok I did that, but it still says:

cannot read /dev/input/mouse, no such device

something along those lines.. Im going to bed, I'll check back tommorow asap

Strangely enough, I'm running into the same problem right now. I've installed this flavour of linux multiple times, and have never encountered this.

I have checked the /dev/ directory, and I have absolutly NO mouse devices installed. No psaux, mice, input/mice, mouse - nothing. I have ran 'xf86 -configure' several times, but it doesn't help any.

Any ideas?

Just as a note - this sort of belongs in 'Hardware'

I don't think it does, cause I can't boot the GUI because of this.

Maybe the node had to be made.

mknod /dev/input/mice c 13 63 or mknod /dev/input/mouse c 13 63 or whatever.

I'm not the expert
