Advice Needed for a Weird Setup
 

I need some advice on how to go about installing Slackware 9.1 on a machine with a IDE CD-ROM and a SCSI HD. I've installed slackware on ALL IDE OR ALL SCSI but never with this kinda setup.

Do I need a boot disk? If so..what bootdisk...or rootdisk.

you need to know what scsi controller you have, then take a look here

to determine which kernel supports your scsi. armed w/that just boot from the cdrom, and type in the kernel name when promted. the rest of the install should be normal. the scsi kernel(whichever one you select) should have no problem w/the ide.

Ok thanks for the advice..so far its booting fine...however the one issue I'm having is...when I use cfdisk to write the partion to the disk it seems to write fine (doesent tell me any errors) however when I go back into cfdisk it shows me that the partions were never written to disk.

Anyone run into this before?

i think you're refering to formatting, which is done later by the install. from cfdisk, you write a partition table. from the install when you select target partition, is where you'll format the partitions.

Ok fine...I write the partion to disk...but it doesent write...when I go into setup Slackware tells me Nope..no partions...

Sometimes re-reads fail (mine always do) so you should just have to reboot after repartitioning to have the changes effected.

I run cfdisk. Set all my partions and write it to disk. NO errors. I reboot the machine and run setup. Setup tells me that there are no partions.

Note: i'm using the rootdisk of aic7xxx.s

Anyone got any more ideas?

ive seen this before but cant remember ... try fdisk and see if it can save the partitions
