ADSL router issues
Hi
I have recently installed slackware 10.2 on my PC but cannot connect to the net !!
my connection:
phone line--->adsl/router(belkin)--->computer(through ethernet)
i can connect to my router if i put its i.p into browser but cannot connect to the any webpage "host cannot be found"
Tried running netconfig and inputting details there to connect but still no luck, maybe im putting information wrong ?
im very new to linux so if someone can explain how i can setup linux for my router properly it would be much aprreciated.
can give more info if required.

Hi,
You need to setup the router via it's inbuilt web interface. Browse to http://router ip here.
This should connect you to the interface for the Belkin router, where you will need to input your ISP details, login ID and password etc. Might I suggest that you read the Belkin user guide.

That is not the issue,
my router works perfectly when running windows(on seperate hard drive) it has my login details stored .
The issue is linux wont allow me to connect to the net, not sure if ive entered my router settings etc into Netconfig right or maybe theres another step or setup i need to do ..

Are you getting your network settings using DHCP or putting them manually?
Maybe you're missing to set the router as your gateway. Try checking the output of route -n (probably you'll want to paste it here).
Another usefull information would be the output of ifconfig ethX (change the X with the corresponding number).

What's in /etc/resolv.conf? You need to put there 3 lines:
nameserver IP_modem (e.g. 192.168.1.1)
nameserver DNS_1
nameserver DNS_2
May be you can give your /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1.conf?

yay! got it working guys thanks for your help, sorted the settings in /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1.conf
