ok, i tried searching the forums for this question but i haven't found any. anyways heres my problem.. am running slackware 9.1, everything is working fine, except my internet, i nid to connect at startup so i can setup dropline gnome. my internet is a adsl, the kind that i sort of verify myself with a username and password, not the kind that is always on, so i dunno where to start. thnx
yup.. my nic is connected to the router, and yes i already tried the netconfig, i need to sort of "dial up" to my provider to verify my username and password, i successfully set this up in rh 9, fedora core 1, mandrake, just want to set it up in slackware cuz many people recommended this distro. thnx
err no hihi.. i didnt know those commands.. are those built in commands or do i need to download something else? am at work right now, gonna try that when i get home. thnx alot
My setup use a Ethernet ADSL modem connected to a 4 ports broadband router...
Within the setting of the router, I entered the configuration of the ADSL modem...
Until now, i think you've already done that (since it was working with other distro)...
Did your router act as a DHCP client (provide IP address automatically to your computer)?
If so, you just have to use the netconfig command and use the DHCP option... Nothing else to enter... except for the host/domain name... for sure...
I was starting to get an headache when I setup mine this week (Yes, i'm new to it too!). But it was only because I had left a manual ip assignation to my ehternet port of my computer in the bootup process... (included an "ifconfig eth0 ipaddressblablabla..." in the /etc/rc.d/rc.local file)
So, for my setup, it's the router that have the config of the modem and setup-it for connection...
