additional partition: reisefts OR ext2
 

guys need your comments, i have read bout ext2 and reiserfs, and both seems ok to me..but what is the main difference of the two? my other logical partitions are in reiserfs but i need to know the difference of using them... thanks..

First of all, ext2 has been superseded by ext3, which is a journaling file system; so you should consider between ext3 and ReiserFS.

ReiserFS is much faster than ext3 for small files. But in certain circumstances ReiserFS's tree might get corrupted (I think?).

Also, I've read that ReiserFS3 can be confused if you have a ReiserFS system inside an OS file, like for example if you use VMWare, it was M. Reiser himself who wrote about that on the kernel mailing list. Personally I've never had a problem with that, however.

Never had a prob with vmware and reiserfs.

I hadn't neither get this problem on about ... 4 years, since Slackware 9.0

i would go for reiserfs. i have always been on reiserfs and never had a problem with it except one time when i deleted a partition and could not recover my files (at the time only ext2/ext3 had applications for recovering files).

I have never had a problem with ext3 or xfs. Reiserfs has corrupted on me more than once on different machines. So I don't trust it.

I've used ext3, I've used Reiser. No probs either way
