Adding in a second hard drive
Hey guys,
I've got a current version of slack running (10.2). I'm using some network camera's to dump images but my current 120gb hd fills up too fast. I'll be adding 3 more network camera's here within the next month so i need a bigger drive to handle the extra data images. I'm thinking about picking up a 320gb Western Digital drive to put in as my media drive. My question being a newb is how do i throw in this drive and be able to write to it? I've never gone through this process before, so i'm just looking for any pointers on how to make this upgrade work without messing up the primary drive that i'll continue to use. Thanks, :) - RJ |
Here's the basics anyway...
1) Install the new Hard drive. Connect cables. 2) Format the new Hard drive with you favorite file system. 3) edit your fstab and /mnt to reflect the new hard drive. |
Quote:
1) <- physical stuff, know it or figure it out 2) <- cfdisk or fdisk in Slack to make partitions and then mkfs to format the partitions. 3) <- mkdir and a text editor at this point and... 4) figure out how to get your network camera application to dump the images in the new mount point. |
