adding HowTo's from docs.slackware.com to distro?
Hello!
Question to slack maintainers, and Pat, i think - imho be a good thing to adding newly howtos to slackware distro and updating them regularly, as every new slack release has be done...? especially good is http://docs.slackware.com/slackware:beginners_guide "configure your new system" - i thing that doc must be in slack distro root, as raid_howto.txt and so... |
Since the site is in constant evolution, the KISS approach is to just bookmark it and check the news.
Cheers, Niki |
The thing I've never really liked about the wiki concept is that it's an online resource. If the site were ever to go away, all that knowledge would be lost. With old-school style HOWTO's even if the primary site goes away, you can usually find a copy some place.
Of course, the same is also true of fora like LQ. If Jeremy were to decide to call it a day, just think how much valuable information would no longer be available |

also must remember, there also is slackware users with no or limited internet access, as so i also any of us can sometimes install or make a configuration for system without internet access... i think, place a snapshot of docs.slackware.com in .txt format in every new slackware distro under, say, /usr/docs/SlackHOWTO will be a good practice... |

Hi,
Possibly add to Slackware-HOWTO; Quote:

+1 for onebuck.
I only would add the line before citing the linuxquestions forum (ar maybe also before the TLDP), just because I think should be supposed that people would look for best practices or faqs on docs.slackware.com before asking for help here ;) Quote:
BTW, I have no doubt Eric is backupping the dokuwiki material so should be easy to bring it up elsewhere if needed (obviously, I hope not ;) ). |

but, sometimes is better to have slightly old docs, than nothing. on other hand, now on slackware /usr/docs/HOWTO's we have a large number of howto files created approx 1997 - 2002, where even we encounter texts about kernel 2.2.x and so on...:) |
