Acpi events, kernel, daemon xorg

Ive been using slackware current with some custom/self built modules for a while now, including the kernel. I noticed that it has been a long time now that the "ACPI proc events" interface has been labeled deprecated in the kernel configuration.

The problem is this: I dont have that option enabled (because it is said to be deprecated), but now i realised without this option, what the hell is used to respond to acpi events?

The most obvious thing that breaks when you remove acpid and the "deprecated" feature in the kernel is that the monitor no longer will turn off even with dpms enabled.

The only solution to the problem above without re-enabling the kernel option/acpid is to use xorg server with HAL enabled, which ofcourse is now broken and wont even compile.

Thus, why is the kernel developers so quick to label something as deprecated when no alternative/better solution exists? Should i go back to using acpid? Your opinions welcome.

Your best bet would be to check Slackware current kernel config and maybe take a look at Ubuntus or Gentoo kernel config, cause their kernels are probably newer and so have already encountered this problem.
