Best I can do I'm afraid is share your woes. I have exactly the same problem with a usb scanner in Vector 5.1 using kernel 2.6. This used to work perfectly in Slack 10 with the 2.4 kernel. My researches show that lots of people seem to have this problem with the 2.6 kernel using libusb instead of the old scanner module. I have not managed to fathom what the driver should actually be in place of (none), but that does seem to be the problem. Everything can find the scanner - lsusb, cat /proc/bus/usb/devices, sane-find-scanner and so on, but clearly it is not collecting its driver. Can anyone help with this? I think a lot of people would be made very happy.
Don't know if this helps you, but I solved my problem. After exhaustive testing with various kernels and computers I came to the conclusion that maybe sane itself was at fault. I had sane-backends-1.0.16 installed from source. I uninstalled it and replaced it with sane-1.0.15 from the Slackware 10.1 repository. Installpkg this and hey presto it all works. I am using Vector 5.1 Standard with the 2.6.12 kernel.
Incidentally cat /proc/bus/usb/devices still says Driver is (None).
is there any where a newbie can get step by step instructions on how to install a acer/benq 620u. i went to the sane site and downloaded everything they said i needed. but it is really confusing.
tried following the advice on a forum and other folks said they got their's to work.
thanks
