about:kernel (just a question)

because i've never tried to make any change to kernel since i 've first installed linux(slackware)...and i've read at slackdocs how to switch to generic kernel..when you switch to generic kernel does that make any change to your system(users files /etc)or how your system works...and after switching this means that you will have one special kernel for loading...?

and another question:how can i find witch kernel is the best for my laptop?
thanx!

The best kernel for your laptop would be one specifically configured and compiled for your system, but usually you won't notice much differences except a faster boot.
if you switch to the generic kernel that means that your kernel does not have support for almost any disk controller, file-system and Speakup support compiled in. This will give you some extra free megabytes, not really much differences, AFAIK.
