A problem with Portuguese aspell dictionary in -current
 

In Slackware-current "Portuguese" seems to be one of the few languages that have two spelling dictionaries:

• a current spelling (aspell-pt_PT-20190329_1_0-x86_64-1.txz)
• an alternative spelling (aspell-pt-0.50_2-x86_64-5.txz)

The alternative spelling is the "old" Portuguese spelling. This is OK for me. I'm old. Somehow, the current spelling is messed up, but this is the most necessary for Portuguese youngsters! My kids use Slackware-current and although they don't have the SO localized (they also speak English), they still need the Portuguese dictionary for their school assignments.

In Slackware-current the package aspell-pt_PT-20190329_1_0-x86_64-1.txz has a size of 274K (gzipped). However, it should be much larger. Why? It's built using a source file that is far from complete. The source file found on https://mirrors.slackware.com/slackw...29-1-0.tar.bz2 is only 85K in size. It contains a pt_PT.cwl (word list file) with 177K, meaning that it misses the majority of Portuguese words. The most current and correct source file can be found on https://natura.di.uminho.pt/download...0329-0.tar.bz2 and contains a pt_PT.cwl with 2.8M! Using the slckbuild in Slackware-current tree (in the "extra" packages) the current Portuguese aspell-pt_PT reaches 4.4M!

Pat may have already seen this, but it may be better to request an update to this package on the requests-for-current stickied thread.

I can't find the file via that URL. Do you have another source for it?

I don't know how I messed the URL. The file name was wrong! It's https://natura.di.uminho.pt/download...190329.tar.bz2 (the direct link). The general one is https://natura.di.uminho.pt/download...aries/aspell6/ and has everything, the old spelling being the ones with "-preao" on their names!
