Or, Slackware 017 if you really want to find out if someone knows what they're doing.

Simple yet tricky, if you want to test someone you also can do:

Slackware (unsigned int)(-1)>>28

Masked Hackers strike back...

I propose that we use a similar system to that of the Debian nomenclature. Though rather than naming Slackware releases after Toy Story characters, we should retrospectively name all the releases after gods from the Cthulhu Mythos.

This would make 15.0 the rather ominously-titled "Dimensional Shambler".

Furthermore:

1.00 Azathoth
1.1 Hypnos
2.0 Shub-Niggurath
2.1 Yog-Sothoth
2.2 Abhoth
2.3 Nodens
3.0 Ubba-Sathla
3.1 Nyarlathotep
3.2 Tulzscha
3.3 Chaughnar Faugn
3.4 Y'Golonac
3.5 Hastur
3.6 Atlach-nacha
3.9 Bokrug
4.0 Ryan-Tegoth
7.0 Ghatanothoa
7.1 Shudde M'ell
8.0 Tsathoggua
8.1 Yig
9.0 Dagon
9.1 Ithaqua
10.0 Cthulhu
10.1 Zar
10.2 Cthugha
11.0 Shantak
12.0 Ghast
12.1 Sand-dweller
12.2 Deep One
13.0 Mi-Go
13.1 Tcho-Tchos
13.37 Moon-Beast
14.0 Hunting Horror
14.1 Cthonian
14.2 Formless Spawn
15.0 Dimensional Shambler
- current - Dark Young

I think this will give much-needed, catchy namings to future Slackware releases. I can see it going down a storm.

(for those in any doubt whatsoever, this is not a [totally] serious proposal).

+1

I picked up H.P. Lovecraft The Complete Fiction (on PAPER!) from a local boookstore last year. I'll dedicate reading one chapter for every Slackware release so named.

(Heck, I'll read them regardles...)

Who, me?

Howard Phillips Lovecrat echoes in my mind Charles Baudelaire:

...

Il prennent en songeant les nobles attitudes
Des grands sphinx allongés au fond des solitudes,
Qui semblent s'endormir dans un rêve sans fin ;

Leurs reins féconds sont pleins d'étincelles magiques,
Et des parcelles d'or, ainsi qu'un sable fin,
Étoilent vaguement leurs prunelles mystiques.

Translations of Edgar Allan Poe by Charles Baudelaire are still considered among the best.

Yeah, Lovecraft's style is similar to the Symbolist poets' style.

A couple of documentaries about him:
