For the record, Emacs doesn't require the console to run (e.g., you can view PDFs and images directly inside Emacs on X).

Worth pointing out here that this is possible with any editor/viewer combo that supports SyncTeX. You just need to pass an argument when compiling to enable it, e.g.,

In the case of latexmk (say with xelatex), you can do
