A fond farewell...

Yesterday, 17 FEB 19, Tom Eastep of Shorewall firewall fame finally decided to retire.

He is in his mid 70's and felt it was time so that he could travel and do the things he'd wanted to do for quite some time now.

5.2.3 will be the last version of Shorewall (at least dev'd by Tom) in the Slackbuild repository.

Many on the mailing list, on which he was probably *THE* most active dev I've ever seen on any mailing list, wished him a fond farewell, myself included as I remember when I first started using Slackware (13.1 IIRR) I put Shorewall on it and have had it since.

I never noticed this project; it looks interesting. In any case farewell, and thank you from me to Tom, whom I never had the occasion to know.

I used Shorewall for a while.

I hope he has a great and joyful retirement.
