A few newb question's

I just recently installed Slack 10.0 on my machine.

I got it working decently, however when I rebooted my machine for the first time since I got stuff to work I noticed I coulkd get X to work. I tried "Startx" but nothing happeneds.

I can't ssh ftp or access my webserver on wan, either. It only works as lan, I know everything is running because I can access it on lan.

I thought it could be my router... But I've never touched my router The dmz still points to teh machine.

What's the output of ls /var/log/packages/xfree86*?

How about echo $PATH?

so you could startx before the reboot but after the reboot you could not startx?

you didn't su and then try to startx did you? b/c that would give you an unknown command in slackware. Could you clarify my first statement?

ok, so say your want to access the apache webserver from the outside world. What are you doing to try and do that?

Its been quite some time since i've messed with anything like this and so theres some things that escape me atm.

But if you type in your internet ip say 24.204.4.44 into your web browser on the outside world

http://24.204.4.44

it should go to your router and the router is suppose to see handle the request and since you only have one machine demilitarized it shouldn't have any trouble picking a service to handle the request. But Im kind of at a loss as what to do at the moment.

Just as long as your not trying to use that machines local static ip on the outside world, are you? not sure why it wouldn't work.

I have a domain thingie, ever since I got this to work I haven't been able to access my machine ffrom any computer on the network with my ip. I'd have to use the local ip on lan. And use the wan ip from another location. But my friends and such are saying it's not working. But it works on lan, and I tried it at work the other day and nothing.

I don't know, I haven't touched my settings on my router.

yeah that sounds right, sorta

Id double check and make sure that the ip the router has dmz'd is the same as your server, since you say you have touched the settings,.. in a while (im guessing. You would have to have touched them at one point to dmz that ip).

could you clarify "domain thingie"?
