Smile A Complete Guide To Establish Internet Connection Using Pppoe Needed !

Hi could any linux veteran please give a complete guide as to how establish an internet connection using pppoe using an ethernet(not USB)
i have been banging my head for last 48 hours to do so only getting adhoc ideas on setting it up.

The most important issue that the guide should address is what to do if pppoe is connected but even then u cant access any site(the case for me)

Highlighting my personal case my ethernet automaticaly takes an ip on bootup(i dont know wheter its right or wrong)

So please write a tutorial(some generous fellow) for newbies like me who have been doing their homework but still cant figure out s solution.

just run pppoe-setup and answer 'servers' to the DNS question. Choose the default firewall(make sure you have iptables installed). Then start it with pppoe-start, ppoe-stop to kill. What browser are you using?

If you get a IP on boot you probably have a DHCP server, that means, you've something (a PC, a router, a modem) that's doing it.
If your PC is connected directly to the modem, then probably the modem is configured as router, just leaving as it is probably you're already connected, just try to ping some IP address or set a DNS server in /etc/resolv.conf and try.
You can also just set a Static IP address to the ethernet card it will be ignored since pppoe creates another interface called ppp0 when you connect.

The best thing you can do is explain your situation. How's your configuration (one PC connected to the modem, etc)? What settings do you have for your card?
