---== Alsa 1.0.0rc2 && slack 9.1 Question ==--

After kernel compilation to 2.4.23 i install alsa for VIA82xx chipsets.
So:

(@driver dir)#./configure --with-cards=via82xx--with-sequencer=yes;make;makevinstall
./snddevices (no idea what devfs is but is not in man pages though that there is a /etc/modules.devfs)
(@lib dir)#./configure;make;make install
(@utils dir)#./configure;make;make install
# modprobe snd-via82xx;modprobe snd-pcm-oss;modprobe snd-mixer-oss (these mods ok)
# modprobe snd-seq-oss
/lib/modules/2.4.23/kernel/sound/acore/seq/oss/snd-seq-oss.o: init_module:
Device or resource busy/lib/modules/2.4.23/kernel/sound/acore/seq/oss/snd-seq-oss.o:
Hint: insmod errors can be caused by incorrect module parameters, including invalid IO or IRQ parameters.
You may find more information in syslog or the output from dmesg/lib/modules/2.4.23/kernel/sound/acore/seq/oss/snd-seq-oss.o:
insmod /lib/modules/2.4.23/kernel/sound/acore/seq/oss/snd-seq-oss.o failed/lib/modules/2.4.23/kernel/sound/acore/seq/oss/snd-seq-oss.o:
insmod snd-seq-oss failed

1)Why the last module(snd-seq-oss) fail to load ?? (i did not install alsa-oss)

2)After the above, i edit /etc/modules.conf:

# ALSA portion
alias char-major-116 snd
alias snd-card-0 snd-via82xx
# module options should go here

# OSS/Free portion
alias char-major-14 soundcore
alias sound-slot-0 snd-card-0

# card #1
alias sound-service-0-0 snd-mixer-oss
alias sound-service-0-1 snd-seq-oss
alias sound-service-0-3 snd-pcm-oss
alias sound-service-0-8 snd-seq-oss
alias sound-service-0-12 snd-pcm-oss

and create a .asoundrc in ~ with these lines:
pcm.via82xx {
type hw
card 0
}

ctl.via82xx {
type hw
card 0
}

I reboot and in boot time(only the 1st time) i read somewhere this line:

"modules.conf is modified earlier than /lib/modules/2.4.23/modules.dep"

So if i wanna load a module, modprobe is gonna search for it's dependencies at modules.conf and NOT in modules.dep ?!? or what does this message mean ?

3)After every boot, alsamixer(so KMix) is muted

1) I think it's because you didn't install alsa-oss
2) Try a 'depmod -a' in a console for updating the modules.dep from modules.conf
But normally it is done at the boot.
3) Try 'alsactl store' in order to memorize levels and then they will restore a the next boot...
