Question 9.1 Slackware SMP.S?

All,

Does anybody have (or know where I can find) a generic Slackware 9.1 SMP kernel, config file and system map file for SCSI? The reason I ask is that I have been trying to build a custom kernel without much success. My problem seems to be when the system goes to multiuser (yes the kernel boots single user) it hangs in DHCP.

My configuration is an Intellistation Pro Z model 6865 with 2 500 Mhz Xeon IIIs.

why dont you boot single and then stop DHCP from loading.

when you compile your kernel it will make a system.map for you in /usr/src/linux ... check out the first post in this forum for help.

to compile for smp just change the options in the general section ... everything else will be the same. If your kernel is booting in single user mode then its not the kernel, you have something wrong ... maybe dhcp or something after it.

Skog,

Thanks very much. Eliminating the kernel as the source of the problem is good. One other piece of info is that when I just boot using the adaptec.s kernel out of the box, there does not seem to be any problems ... the system runs with a single CPU and DHCP works fine. There must be some network libraries that are SMP specific. Thanks again.

All is well in the SMP world. Am now able to make all sorts of kernels. The reason .... Yes, you guessed it. The modules were not getting installed since I didn't run "make modules_install" regularly.
