Unhappy 9.0 has started running really slow?

For some reason my system has slowed to a crawl. HD read/write has slowed down too.

Running on an Athlon XP 1800. I recently compiled kernel 2.4.21, which was running fine until today. The only change I can think from last boot is that I installed Xine and some video codecs.

Many thanks in advance for your help.

Okay for some reason it's decided to go back to normal. Weird. If it happens again I'll be sure mention it.

While I'm here I have another problem. I'm trying to use the ksysguardd applet on the KDE 3.1.3 panel to monitor my upload/download speeds.

Usually all I have to do is drag the trasmit/receive sections of the KDE System Guard onto the ksysguardd panels, but now it's giving me a prompt saying:-

Connect Host

and the options:-

Custom command

There's also a little lightening bolt on the panel, where the readout should be.

Any ideas?
