64 Bit Slackware networking fails Marvell Gigabit Ethernet Controller
Been testing the latest 32 and 64 bit current Slackware distributions. My Asus P5NSLI/Pentium D system works great with 12.2 stable or current. Networking fails with the 64 bit current though.
The motherboard has a Marvell Tech Group 88E8001 Gigabit Ethernet Controller, but rc.inet1 fails to accept the address offered by my router (192.168.1.1). Instead, it will default to: warn, eth0: using IPV4LL address 169.254.63.5. Any ideas? Right now I'm stuck using the 32 bit version of Slackware current. |
So it detects the device, but cannot obtain a DHCP lease? Can you assign a manual IP?

Thanks for the input.
I tried assigning an IP address, but to no avail. After 'googling' the internet, I now see that many other users also have problems when 64 bit operating systems are used with Marvell 88E8001 ethernet controllers. I think I'll give up on this one. The 88E8001 works perfectly with 32 bit operating systems. I have since stuck in a good old 3com 3C905 10/100 network card, and lo and behold it works with 64 bit Slackware as well as other 64 bit distributions. And. it's fast enough for my use. I wonder if anyone has gotten a 64 bit system to work with Marvell's 88E8001 controller. |
