32 vs 64 bit MySQL Data?

I need to switch my server back to 32bit as the performance hit of 32bit is just too much. Can I unmount /var where my MySQL data is stored, reinstall and then remount /var and have it pick up the config and databases or will they be different between the 64 and 32 bit versions.

I've never had a problem doing this. But my data is simple.

There is some Mysql conversation about this migration, that you'll want to read through before attempting:

The completely safe way is to do a complete mysqldump of your databases before changing the server, then recreate from those on the new server.

That said, I keep my db data on a separate partition and have migrated it that way as well without difficulty (albeit, not between 32/64 bit). Just be sure to run the mysql-update script under the new server and it will pick up any necessary changes.
