2.6 frame buffer problem on Slack 10.2

Hi,

I seem to have lost the cool frame buffer setting when my 10.2 install boots after a 2.6 kernel upgrade.

It was set at 1024x768x64k, but has now ended up as larger text without the penguin.

I haven't modified LILO, and have the appropriate modules loaded in the kernel.

Any ideas?

Mark.

I'm no guru so keep that in mind. but I have VESA with a check box in my kernel config and not as module. When I had VESA as module when I was trying to figure out ATI drivers, I wouldnt get the 'penguin' and I got large text too. When I changed my kernel config to have VESA with a check box and then recompiled and installed my new kernel I was able to get the penguin and the nice text on screen when I booted up.

Hi,

Thanks, I'll give that a try. I'll change the config and recompile.

you can add a vga value to your bootline in grub or lilo, for example mine is this in grub:

Quote:
kernel /boot/vmlinuz root=/dev/hdb2 ro vga=788
and that should return your text to a more manageable size, and put the penguin back....

Hi,

Thank you - I reconfigured and recompiled and it worked. I had missed to obvious options.

Easy when you know how!

Many thanks for your time,

Mark.

The VESA/framebuffer stuff needs to be compiled into the kernel, unless you use an initrd imag, if I recall correctly.

I used to try compiling VESA and framebuffer support and modules, and I'd never get framebuffer support.
