2.6.13-unable to mount root fs

hey there.

I have an Intel Xeon and I tried to compile 2.6.13 kernel with smp support. I used a configuration that have worked on another machine which is exactly the same as mine. When I try to boot though I get the error message:

"UDF fs:no partition found (1)
kernel panic: VFS: unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(3,2)"

I use reiserfs. Any ideas?

Do you have reiserfs compiled into your kernel directly (not as module)?

In make xconfig/gconfig/menuconfig, go to File Systems. Check the appropriate file system (check all ext2, ext3 as well as reiserfs to be safe). Do not leave as [M] but as [Y]). Unless you're using initrd, you need the filesystem compiled into the kernel.
