2.6.0-test8 and sound

How can I use the built-in alsa option in 2.6.0?
I have compiled the kernel with alsa enable and my soundcard support in the kernel. When I try to play a sound, I have an error telling me that no soundcard was found. Same if I run alsaconf!
Furthermore, I don't seem to be able to recompile alsa-driver..

Any idea?

You don't have sound in 2.4.22? What kind of sound card do you have? Did you check www.alsa-project.org to see of it's supported?
Did you do a 'lsmod' command to see if your sound modules are loading?

It is a very long story... My sound card is supported but I had nightmare getting it to work properly.
If you are interested and have time to spare, full explanation here:
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...hreadid=106420

The latest development is that after compiling 2.6.0test8 which didn't work, I recompiled 2.4.22 and again the alsa driver, and somehow, it worked though it broke X? Don't ask why, I don't undestand!
After 2 weeks messing about, I have got sound working and not sure I want to fiddle with it anymore... Even for the sake of understanding why it works...
