2.6.0 DSL woes

Ok... here we go again...

I just compiled a working 2.6.0 (stable) kernel. With 2.4.22 and 2.4.23 my DSL setup worked fine but now I when I use "adsl-start" (just like in the other kernels) it times out on me. No connection.

I have the right kernel modules for my NIC card loaded, via-rhine, and it is set as eth0.
I have done "adsl-setup".
I have PPP compiled into my kernel.

What can I try?

:confused:

Exactally what do you have compiled into your kernel? You need all of these....

PPP (point-to-point protocol) support [*] PPP filtering
<M> PPP support for async serial ports
<M> PPP support for sync tty ports
<M> PPP Deflate compression
<M> PPP BSD-Compress compression
<M> PPP over Ethernet (EXPERIMENTAL)
<M> SLIP (serial line) support [*] CSLIP compressed headers [*] Keepalive and linefill

The last 3 aren't really necessary. I checked em' anyway... They're modules, so who cares..
Make sure you have your ethernet card selected. Stupid to say, I know. Just making sure.

Ethernet (10 or 100Mbit) --->[*] Ethernet (10 or 100Mbit) [*] 3COM cards
<*> 3c590/3c900 series (592/595/597) "Vortex/Boomerang" support

I enable ip tables and various other related networking options as well but the first 7 are vital. I also don't overly trust modules for specific hardware support. No reason really, I just don't.. Build it in. There will be no chance of a module trying to play hide and seek... Or automounting acting up.

I also use these:

Networking options --->
<M> Packet socket [*] Packet socket: mmapped IO [*] Network packet filtering (replaces ipchains)[*] Socket Filtering
<*> Unix domain sockets [*] TCP/IP networking [*] IP: TCP syncookie support (disabled per default)

When it doubt........ ? ? ? ? Takes awhile reading all that crap tho....

Thanks for the help... I will try adding everything under ppp like you stated... I only have ppp checked and none of the others.

I will be back with the results.

:)
