14.1 - modules to be started at runtime

I see 'mysql' is still being referred to when you get to the end of the install. It doesn't worry me 'cuz I'm not using it anyway - but should it not be 'mariadb' instead?

The contents of the mariadb package are still referring to themselves predominately as 'mysql', so it seems to make sense for the rc script to do the same until such time as that changes.

Almost every basic utility has the same name as you'd find on AT&T UNIX. Since other programs expect those names, the names are essentially a from of API. Oracle *did* try to fight the long-standing idea that APIs could not be copyrighted (over Java), but they lost that battle with Google. I don't know if anyone has ever tried to claim that it infringed trademarks, but I'm guessing that wouldn't go over well either.

And yet debian had to rename firefox because they had modified it. But maybe, there's some subtleties at work here.
