1280x800 with ATI or VESA

I recently purchased an HP Pavillion zv5000 series laptop for use on Slackware 10. Pretty much everything worked right out of the box with the exception of the wireless Ethernet and ALSA.

One thing that I need to do yet is get the video resolution to 1280x800 to take
advantage of the widescreen display.

Does anyone have any idea on how to get 1280x800 out of the ATI Radeon 9000 IGP Mobility chipset? or maybe with VESA? I tried changing the HorizSync and VertRefresh but nothing changed.

Thanks in advance

Those sync are for the monitor refresh rates.

Should I use some Modeline to get the monitor working in its native resolution?

add this to you xf86config (or xorg.conf) to 24 bit resolution section:

"1280x800@60"

if need be, delete the other resolutions.

use ati as videocard driver. for me, vesa couldnīt handle 16:10

Hey Thanks for your reply. Now the question is how can I use the ATI driver? where did you got it? do you have ATI Radeon 9000 IGP Mobility?

Thanks again

the "ati" driver is a generic driver for ATI cards, it comes with X, take a look here for more info: http://www.freedesktop.org/~xorg/X11R6.8.0/doc/ati.html
