12.2 fglrx success ati radeon hd 4350 and Intel P45
Herein, I share about my (video and also a plug and play) success!!!!!
Slackware 12.2. The latest (Catalyst 9.1) fglrx just would not work. http://ati.amd.com/support/drivers/l...ux-radeon.html Then ran the uninstall.sh And, then DL the Catalyst 8.12 from http://ati.amd.com/support/drivers/l...ous-linux.html Installed it. Yippee!!!!!! Finally, gots video. Rather nice too. I had booted the latest Knoppix DVD and copied its xorg.conf and used this copy as a starting point for the Catalyst (8.12 works fine, 9.1 would not work). Oddly, Knoppix had video using the vesa driver. Well, Slack did too, but the colors in Slack were way off, weird and very hard to use whereas Knoppix had good normal colors just only a bit flickery (CRT monitor). Yep I know, analog monitor on all of this video hardware. Knoppix (latest DVD) didn't see my 750 GB sata hard drive. Works fine in Slack generic-smp kernel What's up with that? My guess is the kernel version differences. Intel P45 chipset, ICH10 onboard, 1 sata hard drive. al@P5Q:~$ fglrxinfo display: :0.0 screen: 0 OpenGL vendor string: ATI Technologies Inc. OpenGL renderer string: ATI Radeon HD 4350 OpenGL version string: 2.1.8304 Release Asus P5Q Pro motherboard its default pnp setting in bios is "no" (not a plug and play OS) Had a, one IRQ problem. Turned on irqpoll. But, then I wondered about the bios setting, changed it to "yes" (yes the OS *is* a plug and play OS). I then removed the irqpoll. Do not need the irqpoll. Works superbly on "yes" the OS *is* a plug and play OS. So, what happened to Linux <grin><grin><grin>. People, once upon a time, used to complain too much that "it is not a plug and play OS". Alan. |
You'll have to modify the kernel config and recompile in order
to use ATI's 9.1 driver. Code:
Bus options (PCI etc.) --->[*] Message Signaled Interrupts (MSI and MSI-X) take advantage of the installer's ability to create a Slackware package. Code:
./ati-driver-installer-9-1-x86.x86_64.run --buildpkg Slackware/All |

This is very minimal, but it is all I used, in the sections listed. Works fine. Regards, Bill |
