12.1 ==> 14.0 a couple of problems

I've installed 14.0 instead of my old 12.1 slackware system, and a few things are no longer working for me:
- fonts are now fuzzy in X applications like firefox and opera. How do I make them look crisp again? Tweaking xorg.conf doesn't seem to have any effect on fonts.
- DVDs mount with the wrong owner (UID -1). They were mounting OK with Slackware 12. Any quick fix available?
Thanks

Did you run fc-cache?
No idea about the dvd issue.

I don't think I'm supposed to, on a fresh install. Just ran it anyway, to no effect.

Is it possible that over the years you mangled with system fonts and added your own.. I can brief you into what I ordinary due to a new system regarding fonts, if you think it helps, but try and remember if you haven't used any kind of tutorial to get them tweaked.. Can't remember any Slackware installation where default fonts where satisfying for me..

I looked at my other Slackware 12 boxes, the fonts lists under /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts are almost identical to the ones on the new install.

For the fonts in applications, I will change the application preferences to get fonts that look OK.
For the fonts in menus of X applications, the only place I know where I can look is xorg.conf. Changes in the X config used to work for me in the past, but don't seem to work now. If there's any other config file that affects the look of X apps, I'd appreciate some info on its location.

Fonts can be configured in /etc/fonts directory.

Thanks, I see some differences there between the new system and the old. Will trash /etc/fonts on the new install and replace it with the old one.
