[uninstalled] - rust-1.46.0-x86_64-1_slack14.2 ?

I've looked around haven't seen a thread to explain this, Stable ChangeLog for x86_64 says

Quote:
Wed Sep 23 01:04:29 UTC 2020
patches/packages/rust-1.46.0-x86_64-1_slack14.2.txz: Upgraded.
Upgraded to the latest Rust compiler for seamonkey-2.53.4.
patches/packages/seamonkey-2.53.4-x86_64-1_slack14.2.txz: Upgraded.
This update contains security fixes and improvements.
but on my updated system I see
Quote:
slackpkg search rust

Looking for rust in package list. Please wait... DONE

The list below shows all packages with name matching "rust".

[uninstalled] - rust-1.46.0-x86_64-1_slack14.2
and I do see

Quote:
slackpkg search seamonkey

Looking for seamonkey in package list. Please wait... DONE

The list below shows all packages with name matching "seamonkey".

[ installed ] - seamonkey-2.53.4-x86_64-1_slack14.2
blacklist has only
Quote:
[0-9]+_SBo
[0-9]+alien
and there's nothing in removed_packages, removed_scripts

I don't understand.

rust is added after Slackware 14.2 released so you might want to use slackpkg install-new first

I know install-new for current but I always have for stable, just did again, same result

If rust wasn't installed why would slackpkg say "[uninstalled] - rust-1.46.0-x86_64-1_slack14.2" which is latest upgraded version?

I don't think "uninstalled" here means that it was actually installed and then uninstalled, it just means that it's not installed on the system. Since rust was added to 14.2 after release, it will remain as "uninstalled" until you add it (or do `slackpkg install-new` presumably?). E.g., on my 14.2 system at work:
Code:
slackpkg search aspell-fr

The list below shows all packages with name matching "aspell-fr".
[ Status ] [ Repository ] [ Package ]
  uninstalled extra aspell-fr-0.50_3-x86_64-5
but I've never actually "uninstalled" aspell-fr.

"slackpkg install-new" doesn't look for "Added" packages in patches/. Rust was added there:
Code:

Hey folks, in light of Firefox 52.x ESR reaching EOL a few hours ago, I'm
providing some updates. This required adding Rust and a newer version of
LLVM as optional updates for Slackware 14.2...
...
patches/packages/rust-1.28.0-x86_64-1_slack14.2.txz: Added.
Since Rust is now a requirement to compile Firefox and Thunderbird we
are adding it here. Unless you will need to recompile those (or need to
compile other code written in Rust), it is an optional addition.

Yes, the rust package is added as a patches/ package set for 14.2, not as one included in the d/ package set like in -current, so a normal slackpkg install-new won't pick it up. You have to explicitly install it with installpkg.

If doing so though, heed my recent thread as you likely need to install an updated llvm package alongside the new rust package.

It was just meant to be an example to show how it works. I didn't know that new programs added to "patches" aren't included in install-new though!

I know this is solved but a little tab click your way.
Pat goes to his die hard Bruce Willis sucking down a PBR looking for the
froth to make sure all lld Libraries are as virgin mother Mary.
Other wise Firefox never builds for me or Seamonkey.
You want to have fun build Opera.
