[SOLVED] snd_cs46xx No Sound on latest kernel update (3.14.24) for Current
 

I dont know if anyone else has had this problem but on the latest current kernel, 3.14.24, i had no sound.

Doing some research i discovered that it was likely an alsa firmware problem and used this rpm and rpm2txz

http://rpm.pbone.net/index.php3/stat...oarch.rpm.html

to update the alsa firmware.

Problem solved. Just thought i would post this for possible fellow sufferers who had this ancient sound card.

just and fyi, there is a slackbuilds.org package called alsa-tools that builds the alsa-firmware package, so no need to use rpm.

Duh :) I guess i should have looked there, but the above was the first thing that looked like a fix i ran into.
Im afraid i take a rather seat of the pants approach, which i can do with slackware. If i do screw it up i always have the fun of fixing it later :)
