What makes you think e2fsck has a problem ?.
You need to find out why the device nodes aren't apparently being built. What does "fdisk -l" show (as root) ?.

Yes it's not e2fsck. When I boot the machine I can't see the devices on /dev

Code:
# ls -l /dev/sda*
/bin/ls: cannot access /dev/sda*: No such file or directory
"fdisk -l" as root shows nothing. this is because /dev/sda doesn't exixt

I'll post my partition table in a minute, after booting with the default kernel

PS: the issue is not related to the kernel patch I use, as the problem is here even if I don't patch the kernel and with 3 different version of the kernel..

Edit:
this is is 'fdisk -l' in a normal situation. With the bad kernel I don't see anything

Code:
# fdisk -l

Disk /dev/sda: 160.0 GB, 160000000000 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 19452 cylinders, total 312500000 sectors
Units = sectors of 1 * 512 = 512 bytes
Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
Disk identifier: 0xf30aed5f

Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/sda1 * 63 9992429 4996183+ 83 Linux
/dev/sda2 9992430 16283885 3145728 82 Linux swap
/dev/sda3 16283886 312499999 148108057 83 Linux
