[SOLVED] How to get pulseaudio working on Slackware

Hi all,

This is my first time using Slackware (and posting on the forums), coming from a while using Arch. Overall I really like Slackware, but the abundant manual configuration needed is definitely different and new for me. I'm having trouble getting pulseaudio to work at all, partly because I don't want to compile PAVUControl(and the multiple GTKmm dependencies that come with it, which would probably take a while). I've used the Pulseaudio SlackBuild(which is a really cool idea, similar to the AUR), and that worked, but I don't really know where to go from there. Is there any way to configure it easily from the command line, or are there any alternative GUIs to configure it?

Andrew

EDIT: After searching Google and traipsing through numerous wikis, I have found a solution!

I found a tool called PonyMix. Despite its non-existent docs, and confusing command line switches, it works pretty well once you get the hang of it.

In order to use it, you have to clone it from GitHub and compile. Then, "make install" it.

List the devices:

Code:
ponymix list
Then you set your device as the default

Code:
ponymix -d <YOUR DEVICE HERE> set-default
Check the defaults

Code:
ponymix defaults
After this, try playing a song or something else, and you should have working pulseaudio!

If it doesn't work, check in alsamixer that your device is not muted.

Since you found ponymix so useful and because I maintain the SlackBuilds for pulseaudio and related packages at SBo, I've just submitted a SlackBuild for ponymix. All going well, it should be in the next update at the end of the week.

Go to slackbuilds and get and install "slpkg" After you install it "slpkg -s sbo PAVUControl" will download it and all dependencies compile them and install them, it has not failed me yet.
