[SOLVED] atheros / ath10k / QCAxxxx

Atheros fixups that have been lingering for nearly 3 years resolved in 24 hours ... never buy bleeding edge laptop hardware unless you're certified master masochist.

* One line patch to promote tx performance to rx level for 5GHz wifi, 4.9.x kernel. Posted in laptop forum then realized its nubie-centric: https://www.linuxquestions.org/quest...ch-4175648663/

* Also a work around for inconsistent connection/crashes, these go in /etc/rc.local:
Code:
ifconfig wlan0 down; rmmod -vf ath10k_pci; rmmod -vf ath10k_core; modprobe ath10k_core; modprobe ath10k_pci
No idea why it works in /etc/rc.local (did not work as pre-up script with wicd or nm) or why it was so problematic.

* Moved from wicd to NetworkManager. Do not like the nm interface or its crippled applet architecture but connections are up consistently before the xfce splash is done.

Slackware64 14.2 + MultiLib here ...

Code:
3f:00.0 Network controller: Qualcomm Atheros QCA6174 802.11ac Wireless Network Adapter (rev 32)

        Kernel driver in use: ath10k_pci
        Kernel modules: ath10k_pci
When I bought this laptop with a Killer Wireless I had to use a firmware file from https://github.com/FireWalkerX/ath10k-firmware

My Killer "Dual Band Wireless-AC 1535 M.2 AC" seemed to 'fix itself' with kernel-firmware-20160511git-noarch so I've not had to use the firmware override for a while.

My wireless is rock-solid with wicd ( Network Manager could never connect and stay connected -- it would go into an infinite loop ).

But maybe I am missing something ... I'll check it out ...

Thanks.
