That would be a good argument, but no it doesn't. Even the "with-x11" binary runs fine here on the console without X running.

Yes and no too (the argument validity), my point is not to "introduce emacs as a standard" for diff... It's just giving the user a choice. So in my POV this all emacs "discussion" is pointless. And that makes me regret to have specified my choice as an example, since people tend to read that as if they would have to use emacs or "see it" in some menu...

So if people could forget about emacs, and just think about a replaceable tool (mathematically, a 'variable'... ) I'd feel less in the twilight zone.

My apologies for getting that wrong. Just goes to show I only use emacs for psychotherapy sessions. Perhaps I should increase the dose.
