Help in section 6.12

Ok, so in section 6.12. Readjusting the Toolchain, I'm having a problem. I ran the
Code:
make ld INSTALL=/tools/bin/install install
and it gives me an error about not being able to find target ld. I'm pretty sure it means that it can't 'make ld'. Thoughts? Is it safe to ignore this? How do I fix it?

i see, I didn't see that in the book. Perhaps it's my own fault, is it written in the book? Thanks again.

In the book it is usually not stated to cd into a particular directory to build or install. It is assumed that if you are skilled enough to build LFS, it will be considered "common sense" to you. You are expected to cd into the directory containing the source code before "configure && make && make install" unless instructed otherwise.

ok, I guess I didn't realize that the toolchain referred to meant binutils. Sorry!

Don't be sorry, it's just one of those things.

When I asked a simular question someone told me to stop trying to builf LFS and just keep using another distro for a few months then come back and try again.

Well, needless to say, I didn't wait months.

What I did was read up on compiling software from source, download a few packages, compiled and installed them for practice then again tried LFS and was sucessfull and very happy!!

Another good thing to do is read the forums to see what problems others are having and taking notes so that you don't fall into the same trap.

Read ahead and make a game plan.

Best of luck!
