Introduction to Linux - A Hands on Guide
This guide was created as an overview of the Linux Operating System, geared toward new users as an exploration tour and getting started guide, with exercises at the end of each chapter.
For more advanced trainees it can be a desktop reference, and a collection of the base knowledge needed to proceed with system and network administration. This book contains many real life examples derived from the author's experience as a Linux system and network administrator, trainer and consultant. They hope these examples will help you to get a better understanding of the Linux system and that you feel encouraged to try out things on your own.

Not sure how that'll go, at least my old box was on mdk9.2, and updating into 10.0 was a disaster. I suggest just backing up your files, and at least formatting /boot if that's on its own partition. if not, format the drive... You'll get it alot faster that way...
I don't know what is up with mandrake guys, I really like their desktop but i've tried to upgfrade twice, one from 9.0 to 10.0 and now from 10 to 10.1, as it has been said before, a complete mess. I really suggest to backup and perform fresh install. i REALLY hope MDK people fix this upgrade issue.
I didn't suggest a fresh install.. just try to upgrade to all 10.1 rpms via urpmi, and to do that change the sources to the 10.1 mirrors. It's all in that link.
I have been upgrading whenever a new version comes out.
I have started since 9.0
I usually have a lot of little things go wrong. Sound etc.
If you don't have much to loose I recommend upgrade. If that doesn't work you can always do a complete reinstall. But, I would try upgrade first, who knows you might get lucky.
But you can't go the other way.
I usually don't have a lot of things I mind loosing. I like to do a full clean install. I do that with Microsoft too.
