mozilla download manager problem

Mozilla 1.7 on Slackware 10.0
Selecting tools - download manager causes the download manager box to very briefly appear and then mozilla closes

Anybody else seeing this?

Both commands just carriage return, both as root and as my username.
Looking in /usr/lib/mozilla-1.7 everything is owned by root, group root

If you start mozilla using a shell there will probably be messages indicating what the problem could be...
Code:
cd /usr/lib/mozilla-1.7
./run-mozilla.sh
then repeat starting the downloadmanager and see what happens. Maybe the output generated on the console will be of any help.

And a google search finds: http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/f...&forum_id=6199

which points at galeon having messed up /usr/lib/mozilla-1.7/components/compreg.dat

Well, if I read well, the solution was provided in the last post on the page you mentioned in your post.

Deleting the mozilla compreg.dat ( netscape has another version ), allowing mozilla to recreate it and then changing it to read only allows the download manager box to open. I will have to wait till tomorrow to see if I can actually download anything.
This problem was freported to galeon one year ago and obviously was never fixed.

Downloading now works. It makes using linuxpackages.net much easier, insead of having to use gftp.

This was a clean installation of 10.0. The problem was probably caused by openning galeon while logged in as root.

Might the problem stem from Slackware's inter-depencency between packages for Mozilla and Galeon? It's nice to avoid code duplication, but Galeon fails to start after un-installing Mozilla 1.7 under Slackware 10.

I see no mention, in Galeon's package description, of being dependent on Mozilla.
