UT: "fread failed: BufferCount = -248172 Error=1" occurs after gfx card change

Okay, some of you may think I'm crazy but I've temporarily swapped my

Sapphire Radeon 9000 128 MB
for my old
Nvidia Geforce 2 MX 32 MB

Basically I am sick of the ATI card freezing up on my in linux (I never had a problem with it in windows), now the Nvidia card is running fine ... of course it is a bit slow but it no longer crashes in foobillard. Only problem now is that UT original won't run. I uninstalled it a few days ago after the radeon crashed on me *again* and reinstalled it just now.

I get:

Base Mutator is Entry.Mutator0
Browse: CityIntro.unr?Name=Vlad?Class=Botpack.TMale1?team=255?skin=CommandoSkins.daco?Face=CommandoSkins.Gra ves?Voice=BotPack.VoiceMaleOne
LoadMap: CityIntro.unr?Name=Vlad?Class=Botpack.TMale1?team=255?skin=CommandoSkins.daco?Face=CommandoSkins.Gra ves?Voice=BotPack.VoiceMaleOne
Case-insensitive search: genfluid -> ..\Textures\GenFluid.utx
appError called:
fread failed: BufferCount=-248172 Error=1
Executing UObject::StaticShutdownAfterError
Executing USDLClient::ShutdownAfterError
Signal: SIGIOT [iot trap]
Aborting.
Exiting.
Name subsystem shut down

I've deleted ~/.loki since I though that may help but it doesn't seem to have done anything. Is this card simply too bad to play UT or any other way around this?

Thanks

Steve

Many thanks friend, sounds exactly right, my CD is a bit scratched - I'll find another backup somewhere.

Thanks for finding it for me, I did search but obviously not hard enough :(

:)
