Weird Characters

Hi,

When I view this page (http://www.cctv.com.cn/default.shtml) instead of seeing text I see· 庆祝中国共产党成立周年胡锦涛祝贺行政许可法月日正式实施政策解读...


What do I need to be able to view that text? Or if anyone knows what format that is in (unicode?) I can search for some help...

ANY info on those characters would be helpful...

That looks like Chinese to me. Nothing wrong with your character sets, it's just in a different language .

It's Simplified Chinese encoding (so it's most likely either gb2312 or unicode), and it actually is just a news headline about the Chinese leader Hu Jintao and the celebration of the anniversary of the founding of the Chinese Communist Party blah blah blah...

On the cctv webpage (CCTV being the central Chinese TV network), there is amongst all the Chinese characters on the second set of menu items from the top of the page a link to "ENGLISH" if you need to read an article there...OR you could copy and paste text into an online translator for Simplified Chinese -> English, such as can be found at

Dictionary.com
