I'm not really newbie.
I've been using Linux for almost 20 years (Slackware since 2005)
I've had an account on LQ but I changed my email and stayed some time without participating...
I'm returning now!

Hi name-missing OLD-timer!
Contact Us link could help you recover it, IF you want. Do you want to say what it was?

Is https://slackex.exton.net a ?useful? ... (while waiting)?
I'm a pre-slacker OLD 1980-95 SunOS4'er

Hello alemar and welcome back. If your machine isn't yet ready for a new installation allow me to suggest you try out Alien Bob's Slackware Live based on Current. It's very good and can acclimate you to what changes to expect. It's also persistent, or can easily be, so it can actually even be a "daily driver". Highly recommended as Current has been rather amazing for quite some time, at least as far back as old KTown days. These days it's a shoe-in.

Thank you very much enorbet!
I will consider your suggestion with the attention that is deserved...
I had already tried a live DVD of Slackware 14.2, but it did not complete the boot... To this day, I don't know why.

Hello again alemar
It would be useful to know at what point boot failed. Was it a kernel panic? did it just freeze up? Were there any error messages before it failed?

The kernel's primary function aside from file system translation, is mostly about making certain there is communication between the OpSys and the hardware sufficient to get to basic login. It might be useful to try a Live version of Current if only because the kernel will be newer.
