[SOLVED] Downloading Alien_Bob's current64 iso

Does someone tried a successful download of Eric Hameleers (Alien Bob) remastered slackware-current64.iso ?

I'm trying since few days with always a failed end : tryed with palemoon, firefox windows, firefow linux, wget command line, transmission-cli client command line... always a failed end...

Does someone tried a successful download ?

Yep, a couple of days ago. Was quite a story because of multiple connection drops. It took about 3 hours to download with aria2.

I use Eric's script to download and update my Slackware64-current ISO.

You can download his script here. Edit the script with your favourite text editor to choose the type of installation media you want to download.
Make the script executable: # chmod +x mirror-slackware-current.sh.
Run the script: # ./mirror-slackware-current.sh

Added later: If you haven't created directories for your Slackware-current ISO then run:

# ./mirror-slackware-current.sh -f

That will create directories for your ISO.

3 hours to download is a good timing ; mine is more than 22 hours...

using Eric's script to download and update a Slackware64-current ISO seems a very good alternative way. I'll try it but just befor reading your answers both of you (StalocX and Hitest) i had an idea : limiting the rate of wget to 100k and it seems to be good.

Yes. It's a very efficient script. The second time you run the script you don't need to have -f at the end of the command as you created the directories the first time you ran the script.

# ./mirror-slackware-current.sh

The second time you run the script it will be very fast as the script will only download the new updates from the -current branch and generate a new ISO.
The first time you run the script it will take a while to download 3+ GB.

Sometimes I will get my -current ISO's here. Usually if I am testing something in a throw away VM or such. It's a fast mirror but they don't update as often as Alien Bob does.

I have not tried downloading a current iso from Eric's "bear" server lately but I have noticed that the speeds I get from his server can be slow at times.

I would suggest trying an alternate mirror to get the iso. Tadgy's slackware.uk mirror is fast and mirrors most (or all?) of Eric's stuff. The slackware64-current iso is here: http://slackware.uk/people/alien-cur...4-current-iso/

I've been waiting all my night (france) to get the current.iso but so many multiple connection drops... I only have about 1007M... I'm working on a different way.

The laptop is an HP with a very selective bios, all my 14.1 / 14.2 dvd didn't boot, usb stick has the same problem...

I'll try the script tomorow !!!

@HITEST : thanks for the script I'll try it ; my eepc will download from UK during my sleep (in case I have to try some triky solution like partition disk in 2 slices, copying dvd on 1first slice, bootstraping/installing or upgrading from frugal with "chroot" on 2nd slice or something like this I've done one day with a kanotix on hard disk) but I want to try the script.

1- I pluged an external DVD drive, and I could boot on it a 14.1 dvd install disc...

2- Finally I'll be able to boot on something ! Good.

3- trying to install a 14.1 for testing the computer shut down because of heat temperature ; HP 6830s refurbished from vista to xp

4- I'm disassembling computer to clean fan and cut some plastic parts to get more air inside -> the computer will be always at home

5- I get my complete 14.2 slackware64-current-dvd.iso on my eepc

6- this afternoon I'll try the mirroring scritp

7- I think this tread is solved because I have all informations to download and install current.iso

Hi,

You can create a config file by passing a '-w' to the script mirror-slackware-current.sh

A mirror-slackware-current.conf file will be created. You can modify this file to suit your needs. Eric comments very well so you can understand what is going on or what you might need to custom to suit your needs.

create a config file by passing a '-w' to the script mirror-slackware-current.sh seems a very good option ; beguining in 2012 using slackware as personal OS because I had to many trouble with Debian, I feel comfortable since 2018, and this year I began to use congig files (mplayer for exemple).

Mind you that this mirror has slackware-current and not Alien Bob's remastered version of slackware (aka slackware live)
