Zoom won't let me join meetings.

I am using Slackware 14.2 (64-bit) as my operating system, and when I first installed Zoom on it, I was able to join a weekly Bible study that the pastor of my Church hosts every week, unfortunately however, that was the only time that I was able to do so. How do I go about correcting that problem? Incidentally, when I was using Windows, I ended up having to download and install Zoom each time to get it to work properly.

What precisely happens when you click the link to join the Zoom meeting?

Is the invitation you have for the meeting current?

My very, very limited experience with Zoom is that, if you have a valid invitation to a meeting and you click on the meeting link at any time before the meeting has been started, even days ahead, you will go to a screen saying, "Waiting for host to start the meeting."

There was recently a big update to zoom. They've disabled older versions because of the security issues.

If your client software is older than version 5, it will no longer work. The way to fix it is by updating the app or using the web client.

Can you get in by phone instead?

I don't know, I don't have any way of finding out (I don't have an i-phone). And the version that I have is 5.0.418682.0603. But I am still puzzled as to why, if it is so out of date, should it let me join the meeting in the FIRST place

I would start by trying to update to the latest version, 5.1.412382.0614

I meant by phoning in using a land line. You don't get video that way but I don't think you need that to pray!

Have you tried the web client (as rkelsen suggested)?

Yes, and the end result was the same as before.

It's not just a prayer meeting, it's also a Bible study session.

There is the ability to use a landline to access a meeting. Not sure of the phone number or if the meeting lead needs to allow it.

(I don't have an i-phone).
You don't have to have an Iphone to use Zoom. It also works quite nicely with Android devices.
