Recommendations for a gui / sql combination

I've tried to build mysql-workbench, but there are problems that I cannot ferret out. Mysql works fine, but the client interface is really lacking.

I need a gui / sql database combination.

Thanks, guys. Phpmyadmin looks interesting, and are there other candidates out there. I just need this for local use, and it would be nice if I could cook up a simple data entry window.

If you know how to use vim, then the 'dbext' plugin might be worth a look, since you get simple data entry (and more) while also being able to fully use vim.
Edit:
Apparently
https://github.com/tpope/vim-dadbod
Is newer and better, and since it's by Tim Pope, that statement is very likely true, that guy is a vim plugin god, but dbext is tried and true, too.

PHPMyAdmin can be "local only" as well.. just drop it in your root webfolder, set httpd.conf to listen on 127.0.0.1 and no one else will have access.
