I've installed texlive-extra from SBo, and I'm trying to include beramono fonts for use with the listings package (only a small snip of the total code. Hopefully all the relevant stuff).:
Code:
\documentclass{article}
\usepackage{listings}
\usepackage[T1]{fontenc}
\usepackage[scaled=0.85]{beramono}
\lstset{
language=bash,
frame=tb,
tabsize=4,
showstringspaces=false,
basicstyle=\normalsize\fontencoding{T1}\ttfamily,
Using the above with pdflatex generates the following:
Code:
kpathsea: Running mktexpk --mfmode / --bdpi 600 --mag 0+510/600 --dpi 510 fvmro8r
mktexpk: don't know how to create bitmap font for fvmro8r.
mktexpk: perhaps fvmro8r is missing from the map file.
kpathsea: Appending font creation commands to missfont.log.
!pdfTeX error: pdflatex (file fvmro8r): Font fvmro8r at 510 not found
==> Fatal error occurred, no output PDF file produced!
texlive-extra contains:
Code:
usr/share/texmf-dist/fonts/afm/public/bera/fveb8a.afm
usr/share/texmf-dist/fonts/afm/public/bera/fver8a.afm
usr/share/texmf-dist/fonts/afm/public/bera/fvmb8a.afm

What I've been able to find is that there might be a map file issue. Before I start swinging away with the Ubuntu-centric answers I'm seeing, I thought I'd ask if I might be missing some Slackware method for getting the slackbuild provided package working 'out of the box'.
I've only been playing with Latex for a couple of weeks, so it's perfectly feasible that my code is simply wrong, but I've tried several permutations with the same result.
Any ideas or pointers to missed READMEs would be appreciated.
